Chevening scholarship has two-step application process. The first step is document-based selection. The second step is interview and recommendation-based selection. I will introduce when I received the results per the application step.

My chevening application timeline in Japan
The selection process was conducted in Japan according to almost the same schedule, but the selection results were announced a little earlier. The schedule in my case was as follows:
- Nov – Submission of application documents
- Mid-January – Received notification that I had passed the document screening
- Early Feb – Interviewed at the British Embassy
- Mid-March – Announcement of results
- May – Submitted acceptance letter
- August – Started studying in the UK
When did I hear the result of application document?
I received the result in January. I received the result by email and Chevening committee asked me about the available dates for the interview. The interview dates were already set and those were 2 weeks later. Honestly speaking, I was a little shocked because I thought I do not have enough time to prepare for the interview.
What I can advise is to prepare for the interview in advance. At least you need to be comfortable with English interviews.
When did I hear the result of the final interview?
I heard the result in mid-March. My interview was conducted early February. Around 5 weeks later, I heard the interview result. This time I received the result by email. After receiving the result, I started communicating with Chevening officers and providing the required documents and received the additional instruction until I went to the UK.
